Since yall are so excited because they made it to the 2nd round last year...HELLO...the Hawks play in the East, the worst conference in the NBA, they are suppose to make it to the playoffs...besides that obvious point which some of you are to deluded to see, here is the question...Do you really honestly believe the Hawks, with the roster they have now, can compete with the Magic, Celtics and Cavs for supremacy in the East? **** could we beat Chicago in a playoff series? Discuss...

No. Until this team puts an emphasis on defense, they won't do anything.

We finished 4th last year with a crappy bench, crappy coach, and a banged up core of starters. I believe we can finish a little better and we've always improved our record with Mike Woodson. I don't see why not. The Magic probably got worse when they got washed up Vince Carter, and the Celtics are arguably on the decline. Regardless though, if the Hawks can't get any bigs this offseason to come off the bench, this kind of talk is useless because the Hawks will indeed suck again. I just want us to re-sign Bibby, Marvin, Zaza, and David Andersen.

PG:Bibby/Teague
SG:Johnson/Crawford
SF:Williams/Evans
PF:Smith
C:Horford/Pachulia/Andersen

Then re-sign Mario West or something and we're set. We need big men to bang with the bigs in the East though. Dwight, Shaq, KG/Perkins, etc.

The Hawks finished 4th in the EAST...

Wow...the Celtics are in decline? Wow...just wow...You don't think they would have been in the Finals with a healthy KG? And they trying to add Rasheed Wallace...VC been on crappy teams for the last couple of years, now he is returning home and playing for a legit contender...if you think VC won't be motivated this year you are crazy...

'Overrated' Mo Williams killed the Hawks last year...that should let you know bad their back court is...so what did they do to get better...they re-sign the same guard who was getting murdered last year...the one yall keep bragging about his leadership skills...lol...yall won't someone who can't play D to lead the team...they trade for another undersized guard who has never even been in the playoffs after 9 years in the league...I wonder if the fact that this player plays no defense has anything to do with none of his teams ever making the playoffs...to top it all off they draft a undersized 2 guard to run the point....

Please can we have some honesty here...this team has no chance to compete for a championship in 2010...

<_<

We can compete when we get a new coach. I doubt "Mr. Defense" effects Crawford once bit and he gets his walking papers at the end of the upcoming season.

Phil Jackson couldn't coach this roster to a championship...but keep blaming Woodson...

I can't believe some of you people are blaming Woodson for Bibby not being able to stay in front of his man...unreal...

Once the Hawks get a good team and Woodson doesn't lead them to championship then I'll be all aboard the 'get Woodson out of here train', but the Hawks ain't there yet, so I'm not going to blame Woodson...

Oh yeah a good team wins 55 games or more...this roster might match the win total last year or come up less...

Who said we were going to the champ game, our coach is garbage, and the only way we would get to there is if Joe Josh and horrors played their natural position, and became allstars.

We will still be 4th next year at worse.

Phil Jackson is the Joe Torre of the NBA.

I don't see anyone talking about a championship for the Hawks... well, except for you in ridicule. As far as Woodson goes, he hasn't developed one player since he's been here: Smith, Law, Jones, and the list goes on.

So Phil Jackson developed Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Grant, Shaq, Kobe, Horry, Fisher and Gasol...lol...maybe it was the team's management getting good players...hmmm...

Your sarcasm is odd considering it's my point. He's had the best players in the game on his teams... just like Torre.

You still got to be able to coach talent...you could argue the Cowboys have one of the most talented teams in the NFL...no Super Bowl...just because you have the talent doesn't mean an automatic championship...Torre and Jackson get my full respect for what they have accomplished...

I been a hawks fan for a long time...I would like to see the team realistically compete for a championship...with this roster they have now they won't....

IMHO, the Hawks were just as talented as any team in the East last season. The difference - and it was a big one - was that the Hawks lacked focus and effort on a consistent level. Sure, some of that falls on the players but a lot of it falls on Woody. When you have an athletic roster like we have, you don't have to do much play-calling. They're not a half-court team. So his only job was to focus the squad and make sure they're prepared defensively. Often times, we were neither. I usually don't believe in making the coach the fall guy for an underachieving team, but in this case, he should be.

Why were 'overrated' guards like Mo Williams putting up big numbers on the Hawks then?

No. They wouldn't have beat the Cavs in a 7 game series

First off this is a totally agenda driven thread. You got started over in the, "Bibby resigns" thread so I understand that anyone who has an opinion not the same as yours is going to have to listen to you but still I will say my piece.

I don't see Mo Williams as overrated. He looks solid and he was a difference maker for the Cavs this year. As far as the Hawks go I am not really on the Woodson side of things. I don't like any philosophy of, "play .500 ball on the road" or "lets just get to the second round of the playoffs" because that leaves a tremendous amount of room for error and let up. It can't instill the killer philosophy that I think every team needs.

I don't think that the Hawks are putting together a championship team. I think this team has a ceiling and they have reached it. I prefer Murray over Crawford and I don't understand why we aren't in the market for more bigs right now.

Now listen to this also. When a team gets into the playoffs the hottest team can win a championship and that's not always the most talented team. Talent doesn't guarantee you a championship. So to simplify that I will say that the Hawks can play .500 ball and if they are hot when the playoffs come then yes they can win a championship.

You need to play good defense to win on the road...with Mike Bibby on your team that will never happen...Mo Williams is overrated...you see what happened to him against Orlando, but he kills the Hawks...the Hawks are the 5th best team in the East right now...they have no answer for Rondo, Derrick Rose, the Cavs guards or the Magic guards...that's why they are the 5th best...I'm looking at a first round exit in 2010 if they even make the playoffs...my bad it's the East...they will make it...lol...
