Once he gets hit....He gets happy feet, scared, sometimes i think his first look is looking for a clear spot to throw it away.

Ever seen Ryan pick himself up off the turf and not look like he was just raped?

This is concerning to me, and I hope he gets out of that. Hits happen, no matter how great the blocking is.

It's easy to forget that, despite the fact that he was lights-out for a rookie, he really only has 24 career starts under his belt. You can't expect the man to have seen everything in a year and a half in the pros, plus the fact that he was barely sacked last year has done little to prepare him for a sudden increase in pressure. It's something you learn, not something you're born with.

Peyton and Brees both ate sacks left and right early in their careers, and that's WITH future HOF RBs sharing the load.

I have to admit there's some truth to what you say. There was a stretch vs the Saints where it was particularly bad. I remember one play where he had all the protection he needed in the pocket, but for some reason he panicked and ran up right into some D linemen to be tackled. The next play, he forced a throw too soon out of panic, and it was badly misthrown for an incompletion. What he needs to do is study Drew Brees from the same game. We had pressure on Brees and a fair # of sacks too, but Brees actually did stay cool and ate us alive with his accuracy and patience under fire.

But hey, that's cool. Matt Ryan WILL study Brees, and he WILL learn how to do that.

I agree with Smitty ... I think Ryan is trying too hard. You gotta be loose and being having fun, because that's when your natural ability can come out the most. He needs to go look at Donovan McNabb. That guy is laughing all the time, having a blast while he plays the game, even in the playoffs.

But don't get me wrong. Ryan is awesome and I'm dam glad he's our QB.

I know we have “intelligent” football fans in atlanta, but sometimes they stretch this compliment too far. What the heck do 90% of the folks posting about Matt Ryans ability to QB HONESTLY know about football? Give it up people. The man clearly knows football, and much better than you or i!
If he fails, then you can get upset. Until then, give him a chance.

This subject will become moot after a win or two and be forgotten.

He will, his life is so lame that he spends his time stirring up tro9uble on a message board. He's gotten banned a bunch, and keeps making new accounts. It won't take long! He just needs an IP ban!

Every QB is like that. Flash back NE vs NYG in the Super Bowl. Brady got hit all day and he was rattled. This is any QB in the league.

For the record this was 2 WR route and the Saints dropped 8 into coverage. Ryan had nowhere to throw that football he was tucking to run there and happened to get sacked.

He could've thrown it into the flats..oh wait, we don't do that.

I havent seen any sense of shell shock. Maybe the SLIGHTEST bit on the pass after the pick 6 but shortly thereafter he was threading them down the middle of the field again.

The teams don't have RBs going to the flats every play for the checkdown you know...

and no, I would hardly describe him as shell shocked. A few plays in the Saints game it seemed like he had a case of phantom pressure syndrome. After getting hit from his left and from behind in the Saints game so many time he had the tendancy to push up and/or to the right when it wasn't necessary. but never seemed to have the deer in headlights stare.

Ah, excellent point. So it was not necessarily because he panicked. More because he saw nowhere to go and so the only option was to try to run it? That makes sense. However, for 3 plays in a row there he seemed panicky. Of course, as someone pointed out above, this is pretty much true for any QB in the league. Some handle it better than others. Matty will improve on this front I guarantee you.

Ryan is soft, no question, especially vs physical defenses. How many more ints for Ryan this year? I'd say at least 9, as I said at the begining of the year he will revert to his college days where he was a TO machine.

The game through different eyes,
here is a thread about Ryan becoming shelled shocked and
there is another thread about how good the O-line is playing this year.

I just find it interesting how different fans can see the same thing and
respond to it in a different way.
