Really? They will complain that we did not win by 60 points or that the halftime show was the worst in history. http://life.atlantafalcons.com/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

Nice post Rev.

The negative threads will never end. There will be people who just go crazy after a loss and I don't ever see that changing. What I try to do is make sure I don't fuel the fire. If there is a thread where there is someone saying Bring Vick back, Matt Ryan is terrible; I just don't even bother posting. I agree that we need to just start flooding the board with positives. I have NEVER been more proud to be a Falcons fan. 1998 was a special year, but that team was not built for the future. We needed to win then and now. I truly feel like this team will be great for years to come. We have many IMPORTANT pieces in place that teams try for years to get at the same time, Young QB, LT, MLB, stud RB, and ELITE RB.

The sky is the limit for this football team.

Rev, great post. I had an account before the vick debacle but gave it up because the board went nuts. I see a lot of the same things now. Not as bad as they were, but some of these posters seem to have an agenda.

Maybe limiting the number of post one can create is a way to go. I was also thinking, is there a way people could be rated and when they get a certain rating they get a symbol or something by their screen name. I understand that we have a +/- rating system and I know that you have the number of posts you have made. But, the number of post say nothing about the quality of the posts. If lets say it takes 50 positive ratings to get a little falcon symbol or something by your name people would know that you are not going to post a bunch of garbage even if you have 5000 posts. I personally would just ignore people that don't have the symbol. It would just be a way to segragate the serious fans while not imparing anyone from joining or posting. If someone joins and post garbage their post would quickly move to the 10th or higher page and people would not have to look at it.

Just a thought.

Wow great post. There are way to many people here that can see the forest for the trees. And probably see this and say this is football forum why are you talking about trees?

Great you get pissed when the Falcons lose I do too. But this team is finally headed in the right direction and that does not happen overnight.

I love this team and will be here until I am no longer able.

Rev, completely agree that the negative jerks are completely out of hand.
On occasion, after games, I'll spend 10-15 minutes bumping every real thread as fast as I can. For a few moments, they'll be nothing but real threads on the first page. If a group of posters would do that for every game, the trolls would get bored.

I also don't respond to most of them except to leave a negative number on the original post; the one's I do respond to, I pull up old posts from the troll to make my point, they usually contradict themselves repeatedly.

One suggestion I would make is if someone accumulates some number of negative points in a day, they automatically get posting privileges revoked for a day or two. If you get say, 50 negatives, in a 24 hour period, you get locked out of the system for 24-48 hours. That would allow us to police ourselves. Personally, I'd like to see the limit at 25; if you've ticked that many people off, you're probably trolling.

That shouldn't be too hard to do from a technical viewpoint, you could even set it up so that the first offense is -50 point, and the second is -25, then -5 for the third. Then have the counter reset after a period of time.

Well said and I love the Samuel L Jackson quote.

Here's my take; It's just kids that's all. Young do nothings who play video games all day. They have not lived through the Henning, Campbell, Glanville regimes. They canot possibly understand how it used to be when the Smith's ran the show.

I agree however with the main theme here. True fans need to rise up! And I'm talking about FALCON fans.

There are a few problems as I see it.

1) The posters here spend way too much time trying to correct trolls or defend players to trolls. You are making things worse. Call the troll an idiot and send them on their way. Do not post stats or attempt to make reasonable arguments because a) the troll doesn't care and b.) you are keeping a negative thread around longer than it should. It is so simple yet you people make the same mistake over and over again. You can't win an war of opinions with someone who will only focus on the negatives.

2) The organization has made a mistake. A 24 hour rule doesn't prevent a poster from sharing an opinion but without it, it makes it harder for the regulars to share their opinions. You are letting trolls have the run of the place and it makes the good posters want to stay away. I may not be a "good" poster but I won't touch this place during a game or after usually until the next day. No way. Not because I let the trolls win but because even if I did want to start a thread it would be buried immediately.

3) It should be clear to us by now that there are no restrictions to starting threads as long as they are in the ballpark of TATF even if it is a duplicate. If the mods can't help us when the trolls come to play we should just spam our own board. Start tons of threads about positive things and bury the trolls. If it seems more positive the good fans will want to play more and it makes it harder for the trolls to get a foothold.

The true fans are the ones that fill the dome or hudle around the radio or tv for 3 hours on sunday. Everyone else on the boards are just those that catch the highlites and come here after every loss to stir the pot becuase it is their only means of entertainment.

Great post Rev.

Speaking for myself... I get very emotional after loses and I try to stay away from the board right after one.

Luckily I've managed to avoid saying anything too negative although I've been pretty critical of Grimes... but he played well in the Saints game so I'll give it a rest for now.

But sometimes venting on the boards is a way to deal with the frustration... I've done it in the past. You're going to have your trolls but when you never have back to back winning seasons you're also going to have part of the fan bases that will overreact.

We need a win this weekend and things will be back to normal.

Well put Rev, if other posters would so clearly state their point on this issue maybe the message wouldn't get confused and lead to so called "whining". Rants usually end up that way, but this is putting it better and I agree. You may have to do what I've now started doing Rev, and that's wait a day or two after a loss b4 you visit. By then, most of the really bad crybabies have exhausted their energy.

That call was made by the Falcons organization. The position of the team is that we welcom all comers, especially those from opposing teams. As long as the COC is not violated, all are welcome.

But the garbage I'm talking about is from long time posters.

Some people choose to believe in the negative part of
reality and ignore the positive of reality. We have a
very good team. Turner is not broken, Matt Ryan is not
going through a sophomore slump and then become mediocre.
We are on the edge of something very special. I am not
sure any other team than the Saints would have handle us
Monday night. I seriously doubt that they would have.
It requires some faith and some people just don't have
any.

Man, we really need a win this week. Not so much for the team, but for old Rev. I really can't stand this place after a loss - even one where we played a great game against great team in their house. This place has always been negative, but the past week had been as bad as this place has ever been (sans the Vick season).

I have 1 question for you people who are trashing the team this week - what the heck is the matter with you??? Why are you even here? This is a young team on the rise. We have more talent now than we have had in a decade. We have young players that are going to be stars for a long time. We are competitive and last time I checked, WE HAD A WINNING RECORD!!!!

But I come here are there are 1000 garbage threads like http://life.atlantaf...-playoff-bound/. Look at the last 20 years folks and tell me how many 10-6 and 9-7 teams have made the playoffs. Please - someone look it up for me (I'm swamped at work today;)). We are out "out of it" at all. We are not horrible, and this is not the worst season in history.

It's like many of you just WANT this team to lose. You can't stand that we are competitve. It's like you want to be depressed. You won't be happy until the team is 16-0 and go undefeated in the playoffs, and you still probably would not be happy then. You cling to the past losing season and want to project it on to this team right now.

ENOUGH!!!!!!! Stop it! In the spirit of Samuel L. Jackson, "I have had it with these ****** ******* whiners on this ****** ******* board!!". If you do not want to be a part of the paradyme shift going on with this franchise, the LEAVE. If you don't want to be a part of watching this team compete on a yearly basis, the GET OUT OF HERE! This is the greatest time to be a Falcons fan in 43 years. If you can't see that, then take your garbage elsewhere.

It is fine to talk about the negatives of the team and have discussions of what we do wrong and where we should improve. Having discussions that are critical of the Falcons is our right and our obligation. But this board has been taken over by nonsense garbage about how this team, it's star players, and the entire organization are horrible. If you truly believe that, then you don't belong here.

For the group of loyal fans that understand what is happening in this city, this is my call to arms. TAKE BACK OUR MESSAGE BOARD! Talk about the positives and negatives in contructive way. Put the garbage creators in their place! We can never get rid of the people that make diridulous posts, but we can show each other and the football nation that this is an intelligent fan base with loyal and supporting fans.

To the true fans - show your true Falcons colors!!!!!!!!!!!

/soapbox

Well Said...This should be bumped early and often.
