Yeah, in the mid to late 70s hot rodding guitars with all kinds of pickups was the rage. Now everyone is horrified about the vintage guitars that got mauled. Keith Richards' famous Tele, Micawber, had the hummer up front way back when. Maybe a 54 Tele?

Variety Playhouse is one of the best places I've ever been to see a show. I bet Trower was fun to watch there. Saw the New York Dolls there a couple years back and Ricky Lee Jones the night the Pats beat Carolina in the SB.

I would venture to say at least 7 out of every 10 Les Paul Deluxe from the 70's had the pickup cavities routed for full size humbuckers and the mini's tossed out.

Such a shame. The first real guitar I ever bought was a LP deluxe about 1974 or so. Tobacco sunburst. It still has those mini humbuckers. They rock.

I saw a grateful dead cover band in Auburn my senior year and the lead player had a goldtop with seymour duncan mini's in it, it sounded really good.

I've always loved the Epi sheraton's with mini's.

Interesting fact: while Eddie Van Halen is largely credited with launching the "super strat" craze when he bought a second hand ash strat body, a second hand neck, routed out the bridge cavity and put the bridge P.A.F. from his '61 335 in it in 1975, Robbie Robertson was rocking a super strat the next year in The Last Waltz. Van Halen wasn't released until '78, two years after the Last Waltz.

He probably needed to go to a chiropractor after that...

Kinda reminds me of a cross between a troll doll and a bobblehead.

That had nothing to do with being the best guitarist. Best Rockstar mainly...
