The culture of the Atlanta Falcons has never been positive. In fact, it is such the case that our franchise has lost 122 more games than it has won. The losing culture is so prominent that we have yet to see back to back winning seasons.

In comes Mike Smith and Thomas Dimitroff - the supposed saviors of the franchise. In one year, they managed to completely turn the franchise around. They promised us a winning culture and they promised us a dynasty. We as fans have learned to believe the Falcons will one day become a dynasty akin to the Steelers of the 70s, 49ers of the 80s, Cowboys of the 90s, or the current Patriots.

However, there is one crucial piece of the puzzle needed before the Falcons can become a dynasty. And its a lot simpler to discern than the age old riddle of which came first, the chicken or the egg. The question is or rather the questions are: Which came first, the win or the Superbowl? And, the Superbowl or the dynasty?

Every Falcons fan out there wishes for a Falcons dynasty but we all seem to forget one crucial aspect. In order for the Falcons to become a dynasty, we must first win a Superbowl. And in order for us to win the Superbowl, we must first win games. Given that this is the case, we cannot worry about us becoming a dynasty when we have yet to win a Superbowl, or even beat top ranked teams like the Saints or Patriots for that matter!

This important fact begs one to wonder: in what direction is the team going in? Dimitroff has constantly stressed the philosophy of getting younger and in the minds of the front office, draft picks are more valuable than free agents. This signifies that Dimitroff and Smith want to build the team in hopes of seeing long-term success. They want to build a dynasty here in Atlanta!

But every philosophy has its flaws and with the current ideology the problem lies in the fact that the front office is more worried about the 'future' instead of 'what is happening now.' Yes, it's all flowers and sunshine if we manage to build a dynasty in the future but before that can happen, we must first win a Superbowl. We can't be known as a dynasty if we can't even win the big games.

And where is our Superbowl ring at?

We as fans hide behind the excuses of 'rebuilding' and 'building to create a dynasty' each time we lose a game but do we not realize we need to win before we can create a dynasty? And do we not realize we are supposed to win the Superbowl either this year or the next? Tony Gonzalez was not brought in to rebuild a team. He came in to win a playoff game, which has never happened in his career, and to win the Superbowl.

The time is now Falcons fans. Forget about building a dynasty - it's either Superbowl or bust.

It's a rebuilding year, whether you like it or not. We have cleaned house for the second straight year. We have a second year qb, a young online, a lot of young guys on defense. RE BUILDING YEAR

How do you justify rebuilding after an 11-5 season and bringing in Tony Gonzalez?

LOL....When were we promised a Dynasty, i think what TD and Smith said they wanted to bring was longterm stability, you cant be a dynasty overnight and you cant just sign FA's and win a Superbowl, ex. Raiders/Redskins

Were trying to build a franchise like the Eagles, Steelers, Colts,Patriots, teams that are consistantly playing good football and are in the playoffs almost every year, they are tough teams and are always playing meaningful football in Nov and Dec, that is how they became dynastys, at least Steelers, Pats, and Colts, I know Philly hasnt won a SB but there 1 of the most successful Franchises in the NFL

So when do we stop rebuilding? Seems like we've been doing that since 1966.

I think the fact that we did clean house on the defense shows were still in a rebuilding stage. If we were ready to be a dynasty and not still preparing for the future the defense would not have let, i think it was 5 starters go. No perennial Superbowl contenders cleans house like that. Yes we brought in Tony G, but we are still a few pieces to the puzzle away from the big game and at least one more season. I'm not being harsh on our Falcons just being realistic. But here is to the building of our dynasty!!!!

Rebuilding a franchise is generally seen as a 3 year venture at minimum. So by year 3-4, a Superbowl should be well within reach. We have the potential for it this year, but no matter how good of a jump start we got on it last year, I am not going to hold that expectation for our team yet. Seems realistic.

More trolls in this thread than normal posters.

This forum is going to Hades in a rocket sled. There doesn't seem to be any good solid football threads by genuine Falcon fans anymore......

Just threads started by these fake Falcon fans designed to get a rise out of regular fans....all because the thread starters mommies didn't hug them enough....

Building for the stable, long term success is the way to win a super bowl and the only way to build a dunasty.

The alternative is to trade draft picks and making high priced FA signing in the hope of buying immediate, short term success - as teams like Oakland and Washington do. The problem is, that trading picks for expensive vets and overspending on elite FA's doesn't work. Due to the constrains of the salary cap, it just results in roster with too much $ tied up in a handful of players and a roster without the talent and depth to succeed. It also hurts you the medium-long term because whereas a good draft pick can help a team for 10-15+ years, FA's have already given many of their their best year to another team and have a limited shelflife in anye evnt.

Draft picks are fundamental to good cap management because (aside from the top 10-12 picks in round 1) they are much cheaper than FA's - That's why the beats teams in the NFL are the ones that consistently hoard draft picks and use them well.
