I know this will probably be moved but, this is just sad.

Mina Brees died of drug overdose

GRANBY, Colo. -- The death of the mother of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been ruled a suicide.

Mina Brees, an attorney from Austin, Texas, died Aug. 7 while visiting Colorado. Grand County coroner Brenda Bock concluded this week that the 59-year-old Brees died of a prescription drug overdose and ruled the death a suicide.

Bock said Brees died while staying at the home of a friend in Granby near Rocky Mountain National Park.

It took longer than three months for autopsy results to be released, but Bock said that's typical for cases involving toxicology tests.

The Austin American Statesman reported that three days before Brees died, the Texas attorney general's office subpoenaed her business records.

She had allegedly sent letters to some restaurants in Austin and Houston stating that they had lost their rights to use their names to a company she represented, Chicksports, but they could win the rights back by paying up to $25,000. She was also the president of Chicksports but that wasn't mentioned in the letter.

Relations between Drew Brees and his mother were strained at times and the quarterback asked her to stop using his picture in TV commercials touting her candidacy for a Texas appeals court seat in 2006.

Mina Brees said she had not anticipated upsetting her son and sent out replacement commercials omitting mention of him.

At the time, Drew Brees called his relationship with his mother "nonexistent," saying it crumbled six years earlier when he refused to hire her as his agent.

Austin attorney Marty Akins, the brother of Mina Brees, declined comment late Friday.

Yeah, that's messed up.

Not just her death, but their lack of relationship over some money.
Man some of these "celebrity" parents are something else.

If I had a son grow up to be an awesome QB and play for the saints, there would be a lot of emotional stress. I'd rather have a daughter grow up to be a stripper.

On a more serious note, it's disgusting what money can do to a relationship. Feel sorry for the Brees family.

Wow just Wow.

No matter how much money that Drew makes during the remainder of his NFL career, that will Pale in comparison to the Burden that he will carry throughout the remainder of his life.

That is the Cross that he must bear.
As the Limelight and Fans fade away that is what he will be left with,
and no amount of money in his portfolio will ever change that.

However should his Foundations be Selfless, his rewards will eclipse
that burden.

That is my Prayer for Drew Brees.

Football is one thing but the compassion and well being of another Human Being is Everything.

I'm sure it didn't help that brees threatened to sue his own mother.

I just know that had to break her heart.

This message board is really something.......did anyone even consider that she may have a side of the story that we don't know about, you hear one side and that becomes fact.

Drew implies it's all about money and greed, she may have stated it was about him being a little freaking &^ick, who knows?

Very respectful. I can see the pain in his eyes beyond the glare of the limelight. No matter what came between he and his mother, I know he will always carry a heaviness in his heart.... :(

Yeah, I read the story earlier and almost posted it on this message. I thought it was such unfortunate story. What money and fame could do to divide a family. As much as Brees may say his relationship with his mother was strained, he has to be bothered by the results. I was wondering how it may affect him going forward.

Rivalry aside, I hope the best for Brees in finding peace.
